NEW TO THE TERRITORY THIS QUARTER

ALI BEY – Not to be confused with the wrestler who worked as Ali Bey and The Turk in the late 70s and 80s, this Ali Bey wrestled from 1950 through 1966 in numerous territories.

CARLOS RODRIGUEZ – Wrestled in numerous territories over a course of a thirty-year career. Among his most frequent opponents (according to wrestlingdata.com) are Herb & Roy Welch, Tex Riley, Freddie Blassie and Farmer Jones.

FARMER JONES – Cecil Loyd Murdoch spent the bulk of his career wrestling as Farmer Jones, but also used the name Paul Murdoch. As Farmer Jones, he often brought his “pet pig” with him to ringside, with the pig sometimes being tied to the ringpost during matches. His brother was Hoyt Richard Murdoch aka Frankie Hill Murdoch, stepfather of Dick Murdoch.

HASSAN BEY – Billed as the brother of Ali Bey when both were in this territory and in Central States, Hassan also wrestled for Gulas, in southern California and several Canadian promotions in the 50s and early 60.

JACK DONOVAN – “Dandy” Jack Donovan (not to be confused with manager Dandy Jack) was a fixture here for many years. He married wrestler Verne Bottoms, who later managed Jack as “Mrs. Jack Donovan”. Teamed with Ron Reed (the future Buddy Colt) here in 1967-1968, and later teamed with Jerry Brown. When Donovan was injured in March 1970, he was replaced by preliminary wrestler Buddy Roberts as Brown’s partner. Roberts & Brown went on to achieve great success as a team, billed as the Hollywood Blondes and often managed by Sir Oliver Humperdink.

JODY HAMILTON – Before becoming one of the classic heel characters in all of wrestling, a fresh-faced Jody Hamilton debuted as a teenager and spent much of the early part of his career in the Central States territory. In 1961 in Georgia, he donned a hood and wrestled as The Assassin for the first time. He also wrestled under a mask as Bolo, tag team partner of the Great Bolo (Tom Renesto) in Mid-Atlantic, for a few years. Hamilton & Renesto began teaming as The Assassins in other territories and were huge draws in the 60s in multiple territories, often feuding with the Kentuckians (Big Boy Brown & Tiny Smith).

KENNY ACKLES – Ackles wrestled throughout the U.S. and Canada in the 40s and 50s and also wrestled internationally later in his career. Was sometimes billed as a Hollywood star, though he seems to have had no more than a handful of acting appearances over the years.

PEPI PASQUALE – Wrestled for about a decade using a few different ring names, including Pepi Pasquale, Pepe Cortez and Frank Pasquale.

TIMMY GEOHAGEN – Was said to have studied hypnosis under noted psychiatrist and author Maurice Nicoll. Sometimes would do hypnosis demonstrations on fans prior to the matches or during intermission. Geohagen was often billed as a master of the sleeper hold, and sometimes his pre-match demonstrations also had a “if any fan can escape his sleeper hold…” component.
