In the 4th quarter of 1981, Scandor Akbar returns, a surprisingly thin main-event roster, applying critical thinking in the absence of match results, and more!

NEW TO THE TERRITORY THIS QUARTER
(wrestlers either making their first-ever appearance as a regular in this territory or appearing in a significantly different role/gimmick than when they were here previously)
DON SERRANO – Spending much of the 60s and 70s wrestling across North America (and two tours for New Japan), Hector “Don” Serrano debuted here in November, coming in after spending the summer in Nova Scotia for Grand Prix. He wrestled under his real name early in his career, then switched to Don Serrano almost exclusively with two exceptions: a 1974 run in All-South (Gunkel) as Super Soul Davis and a stint in the WWWF as the Black Demon.
ED WISKOWSKI – The future Col. DeBeers turned pro in the early 70s. He grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri, and spent a good part of his early career wrestling in Heart of America (Central States). After a brief run in Florida as “Mongoose” Derek Draper and a very brief run in the WWWF as the Polish Prince (lasting no more than a couple of TV tapings), he transformed himself into the Mega Maharishi in the Pacific Northwest in 1985-86, capitalizing on the controversy surrounding the Rajneeshpuram in Oregon. Shortly thereafter he first adopted the Col. DeBeers moniker in the AWA.
FRANK MONTE – This was his first appearance in the area in over a decade. As “Cowboy” Bruce Kirk, he had two separate stints here, one in 1966 and one in 1970-71. He later took on the Frank Monte ring name, often billed from Alaska and teaming with Mike York as the Alaskans in a few different territories.
JERRY NOVAK – Jerry, born Jaroslav Novak, spent most of the 70s as one-half of the Bounty Hunters with David Novak (often managed by Jimmy Kent). David’s real name is listed in some sources as Charles D. Melvin, but there are other sources that say the Novaks were brothers in real life.
JESSE BARR – Born in 1959, Jesse was the son of Sandy Barr and the older brother of “Love Machine” Art Barr. He turned pro in March 1980, first wrestling in Portland and Vancouver before going to Heart of America in August. He then went to East Texas and spent much of 1981 there before coming here in October. Already part of one wrestling family, he “joined” another in 1986 when he went to the WWF as Jimmy Jack Funk, the “younger brother” of Terry and Dory Jr.
RICK FERRARA – Ferrara had been here many, many times over the years as Igor Putski, debuting as a “cousin” and tag team partner of Ivan Putski’s in 1972. After an initial push, he was moved down the cards after Ivan left and was used in a mid-card/preliminary role for years. He had last worked here as Igor in May 1980. I don’t believe they acknowledged his prior role when he came here in late 1981 as a heel named Rick Ferrara.

In TV episodes from December 1981 that are currently available on Peacock (or WWE Network internationally), he is managing the Iron Sheik, so he likely came here either when Sheik debuted in September or shortly thereafter.

CHAMPIONS & KNOWN TITLE CHANGES

NORTH AMERICAN TITLE
Paul Orndorff was the champion at the beginning of the quarter. Ted DiBiase defeated Orndorff on 11/1 in Lake Charles, LA to win the title.
MID-SOUTH TAG TEAM TITLES
The Samoans (Afa & Sika) were the champions at the beginning of the quarter. Junkyard Dog & Mike George beat them on 10/15 in Jackson, MS to win the titles.
LOUISIANA TITLE
Bob Roop was the champion at the beginning of the quarter. The Great Kabuki beat Roop to win the title on the TV show that first aired in some markets on 10/3. Junkyard Dog beat Kabuki on 12/7 in New Orleans to win the title.
MISSISSIPPI TITLE
Bob Orton Jr. held the title for the duration of the quarter.

ANATOMY OF A FEUD
Here’s a look at the feud between Junkyard Dog & Mike George and Paul Orndorff & Bob Orton Jr, looking at all the known matches between them with stipulations noted where available. The matches are arranged chronologically by city, so you can easily see which cities had multiple matches between them.
Keep in mind that some newspapers didn't list details, so just because a match isn't specified as a title match, we don't necessarily know for a fact that it was non-title and the same can apply for stipulation bouts.
This was a continuation of the JYD-Orndorff feud which began over the summer after Orndorff turned heel. Orndorff was aligned with Orton and Roop, while George returned to the territory and turned babyface, aligning himself with JYD.
While there aren’t results for many of these cards, it is possible to infer what happened based on the progression of stipulations. Here’s how we can do that:
-If the first match in a town isn’t billed as a title match and the second match is, it is a reasonable assumption that Orndorff & Orton won the first bout to set up a title match (JYD & George were the champs).
-In towns where the second or third match had a no disqualification stipulation, it’s likely that the previous match ended in either a double disqualification or one of the teams getting disqualified.
-If the second (or third) match had the stipulation where Terry Orndorff was handcuffed to the ring post, we can assume that it was his interference led to the disqualification on the previous show.
-It is very likely that JYD & George won the ‘blowoff’ match in each market, as they were not only the babyfaces but they were the champs and didn’t lose the belts to Paul & Bob at any point.
