McGuirk Wrestling Territory: Week of 1/12/76-1/18/76

For the week ending January 18th, 1976: an interesting look at how McGuirk used three different African-American babyfaces over a six-month period of time, the Murdoch-Kox feud continues to heat up & more!

Here's a look at the talent roster along with SPOT ratings and FEUD scores for the week.



Other wrestlers advertised for shows this week but not listed in the SPOT ratings: Jack Curtis Jr.

Newcomers this week were babyface Gorgeous George Jr. and heel Mr. Ito. Both came here from Gulf Coast. George had been here before a few times, most recently in 1974. Ito (aka Umanosuke Ueda) also had previous stints here in the past, most recently a year prior.

Pork Chop Cash left the territory and went to Southern California. His next stint here would begin in May of 1977. Looking at SPOT Ratings dating back to the previous summer, you can see a clear pattern of three different African-American wrestlers being used in the same role. In the summer of '75, Tom Jones was slotted as an upper-midcarder; when Pork Chop came in, he slowly made his way up the cards while Jones was simultaneously moved down. Jones eventually left and Pork Chop settled into the upper mid-card babyface role. After a couple of months in that spot, Pork Chop in turn was phased out when Sonny King came in and slowly moved up the cards. Sonny eventually replaced Pork Chop in the upper-midcards while Pork Chop moved down the cards and eventually out of the area.
