n the 4th quarter of 1972, Doctor X turns babyface and feuds with Bob Sweetan, Jim Valiant turns heel, Mike George debuts in the territory, “America’s youngest professional wrestler” makes his pro debut & more!

NEW TO THE TERRITORY THIS QUARTER
(wrestlers either making their first-ever appearance as a regular in this territory, their first appearance since Sep 1959, or appearing in a significantly different role/gimmick than when they were here previously)
DON ALLEN – Don primarily wrestled under his real name of Don Wayt over the course of a several year career in the 1970s. His earliest matches in this territory, which were his first bouts as a pro, saw him billed as Wayt, though it was changed to “Bulldog” Don Allen after a couple of weeks. He was billed as “America’s youngest professional wrestler” prior to his November 9th match in Wichita Falls, TX. The 18-year-old Wayt had just graduated from high school in June in White Oak, TX.
EL TORO – I am unsure as to the identity of this wrestler, who was here for several weeks in the prelimins. There are two wrestlers I know of that used the ring name El Toro at some point in their career and who were active at this time (Francisco Flores and Pedro Godoy), but both of them are in Georgia during the time this wrestler is here.
JOHNNY RICO – As with El Toro, I am unfamiliar with this wrestler and have been unable to figure out if he worked under other ring name(s). Prior to coming here, Rico wrestled briefly in East Texas, but that appears to be the only other territory that he wrestled in (at least under that name).
KEN NICHOLS – Nichols wrestled in the preliminaries for a handful of territories in 1972 and 1973.
L.D. LEWIS – Lewis had turned pro earlier in the year, wrestling in Georgia. While Bobo Brazil and Bearcat Brown are recognized as the first African American wrestlers to compete against non-blacks in Georgia, Lewis is believed to be the first preliminary/mid-card African American wrestler to compete in mixed race matches in that territory. He came here from Georgia at the end of October. After leaving here before the end of the year, he next shows up in Florida in January ’73.
MIKE GEORGE –Mike turned pro earlier in 1972 in Georgia. He then went to Florida before coming here in October. The following year he formed a tag team in Central States with another youngster, Jim Brunzell. While he is probably most associated with that territory, he did have numerous runs here over the years. In the very early days of Mid-South Wrestling in September 1979, George was the North American champion, the Louisiana Heavyweight champ and one-half of the Tag Team champs (with Bob Sweetan).
THE PROFESSIONAL – This is believed to be Oni Wiki Wiki wrestling under a mask. While Tarzan Baxter often worked under a mask using a similar gimmick (usually billed as The Wrestling Pro or just The Pro), this almost certainly was not him, as Baxter actually wrestled _against_ this Professional at least once in the spring of 1973.

ANATOMY OF A FEUD
Here’s a look at the feud between Bob Sweetan and Doctor X (Jim Osborne), looking at all of the known matches between them with results and stipulations noted where available. The matches are arranged chronologically by city, so you can easily see which cities had multiple matches between them.
Keep in mind that some newspapers didn't list details, so just because a match isn't specified as a title match, we don't necessarily know for a fact that it was non-title and the same can apply for stipulation bouts.
Heels Sweetan and X had been teaming up occasionally but came to a “parting of the ways” at some point with X turning babyface, likely at a TV taping in late October. As the feud picked up steam, some of their matches were for the Brass Knucks trophy, which had been held by Sweetan since June when he defeated the Stomper (John Quinn) in Tulsa to win it.
