McGuirk Wrestling Territory: Week of 2/16/76-2/22/76
For the week ending February 22nd, 1976: Hiro Matsuda returns and defends the NWA World Junior Heavyweight title against Ted DiBiase, Waldo Von Erich is the champ of Europe (well, not really), the top three feuds show little signs of slowing down & more!

Hiro Matsuda returns to the territory after taking a brief vacation. As the NWA World Junior Heavyweight champ, Matsuda is a "touring attraction", but his home base is here and he's in full-time for the next few weeks. Butcher Brannigan debuts this week, coming here after a run in Stampede. He had been here previously for a few months back in 1973.
Matsuda edges out North American champ Bill Watts for the #1 spot in the Rankings this week. The World Junior Heavyweight title had been the cornerstone championship in this territory for many years, so even with a proven heavyweight draw such as Watts holding the top singles title, Matsuda is given pretty much equal billing. Gorgeous George Jr, Greg Valentine, Buddy Roberts and Jerry Brown all see their SPOT Ratings increase, as their feud over the US Tag Team titles continues to build. Its' FEUD Score increases from a 46 to a 53 this week. The other top feuds continue to be Bob Slaughter vs Sonny King and Dick Murdoch vs Killer Karl Kox.
Waldo Von Erich is being billed as the European Heavyweight champion. This seems to be a fabricated title, and I'd guess it was used to build Von Erich up for his series of matches against Watts.

I added over 350 new house shows to my database this past week, mostly from the Mississippi towns of Vicksburg, Meridian and Natchez.
