For the week ending February 27th, 1972: World champ Dory Funk Jr takes on all comers, Vic Muehler runs Great Mephisto out of the territory and starts seeing "red" (as in, Eric the Red) & more!

Other wrestlers advertised for shows this week but not listed in the SPOT ratings: Dory Funk Jr, Pat O'Connor, Terry Lathan and The Viking (presumably Bob Morse from Central States). O'Connor was booked against Doctor X in Joplin. It is possible he also served as a special referee for some (or all) of Dory's title defenses earlier in the week, as they often brought in former World champs for a week and had them wrestle a couple of nights and referee a couple of nights when the current World champ came in. Dory defended the NWA World Heavyweight title this week against Bill Watts in Tulsa, Danny Hodge in Little Rock, Watts again in Jackson, Grizzly Smith in Chalmette and Vic Muehler in Lafayette.
The lone newcomer this week is Bobby Whitlock. He came in from Central States, which was home base for a good chunk of his career. He had two stints here previously, one in 1970 and one in 1971.
Leaving the territory were the Great Mephisto, Ramon Torres and Don Duffy. Mephisto (Frankie Cain) went to Florida; he would return here for a brief stint in the fall of 1974. Torres, near the end of a twenty year career, went to the AWA. He would return here in November. Duffy went to Florida briefly and returned here in May.
With Mephisto leaving, Vic Muehler appears to begin a series of matches with Eric the Red. They have the third highest FEUD Score this week, behind Billy Red Lyons & Tom Jones vs Bobby Hart & Lorenzo Parente and Danny Hodge vs Doctor X. Eric the Red moves up the cards as well, his SPOT Rating increasing from a .45 to a .53 this week. Also moving up the cards are Ken Mantell and Bob Sweetan. Sweetan's SPOT Rating increased to a .72, enabling him to crack the Top 10 Rankings this week, coming in at #9.
